I am having a problem with the build up of scaling on my distillation flasks after distillation. This is probably due to the hardness of the water? (I use distilled water)
What can I use to remove this?
I have used conc. H2SO4, detergent soaking with hot water and ethanol, but none have worked.
I am not distilling distilled water.
I am doing Ammonia and TKN analysis (diluted with distilled water).
After distillation there is a deposit on the flask.

Do you have a topaz ring?
Filed Under Fashion & Accessories | 2 Comments
I have a blue topaz ring, which is rated at an 8 on the hardness scale. I’ve read that it’s okay to wear it everyday, but I’ve also heard not to.
If you have a topaz ring, how often do you wear it, how long have you had it and how is the condition?

What kind of rock is this?
Filed Under Earth Sciences & Geology | 3 Comments
It is dark green in the centre and the outside is light green, and it is completly transparent. I found it on a beach at lake huron. It was out pretty far were it was wavy and there were no other rocks (the other rocks probably got eroided), so I’m guessing it’s pretty hard (an 8 - 9 on the mohs hardness scale). It’s approximatly 30 carats. Could it be an emerald?

is there a tungsten katana?
Filed Under Earth Sciences & Geology | 2 Comments
tungsten is the strongest metal out there so ive heard and it has like a 9.0 on the moh’s hardness scale and i was wondering if there was anyone capable of forging a folded steel katana but out of tungsten?
haha i know how regular steel katanas are forged
its just that i wanted to know if there where katanas out there that would cut through harder objects without having to be sharpened and wont get chips in it
hahaha ahh thats what it was called tungsten carbide i forgot the other part of the name so i just left it at tungsten
but i mean is there any metal harder than steel thats smith able into one? it does not matter about the weight
